Mattinata is a town and comune in the province of Foggia in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. Mattinata is part of the Gargano National Park (Parco Nazionale del Gargano). Mattinata is between two valleyes, Coppa Madonna and Castelluccio, surrounded of Monte Saracéni in the south – this area is a popular destination for botanical experts, due to the existence of around 60 different species of orchids. Some of them are only in this zone.
On the east side the town faces a plain of olive trees plantations ending towards the Adriatic Sea, and Monte Sant´Angelo from the west. The coastal side heading north towards Vieste is famous for its beauty, due to its white cliffs made of chalks and its large number of sea caves.
Mattinata is celebrating the fete of patron - Santa Maria della Luce in the days 14. - 16. september. This celebration is starting in the morning of the 14th september with the advise of the event by the fire-works and by the bells. On the main street of this small town there is a lot of vendors of the tipical sweets, games and another tipical goods. All the celebration is about the classical and light music. The celebration is possible feel in the air all around.
The last day is the most important thing - the procession with the small statue of Madonna and St. Antonio and archangel Michael. The end of this big celebration is in the evening with really great fire-works.
